A very nice group of medals awarded to Captain Ashley Manton Holmes Cooper of the Royal Army Service Corps. Born in Norwich in March 1915, Ashley was a pre war soldier, granted his commission in February 1938 in the supplementary reserve of officers. He was mobilized in August 1939 and was to serve with the Petrol Company of the 1st Division RASC. Over to France with the 2nd Field Ambulance, RAMC, with the British Expeditionary Force in September 1939. He was evacuated from Dunkirk on the 4th of June 1940. He was to be sent to North Africa with the 8th Army, serving with the 402nd General Transport Company RASC. By the time of Operation Husky, July 1943, he was serving with the 180th General Transport Company RASC. He was then to join 1524th Artillery Platoon RASC in November 1944 followed in March 1945 to the 277th Company RASC. Just after becoming a Temporary Major. By 1946 he was appointed the rank of Honorary Major. He ended his war with the 534th Company RASC and then was with the Regular Army Reserve of Officers in 1948. Awarded his Army Emergency Reserve Medal which was gazetted 29th of April 1955. The Army Emergency Reserve medal is engraved to him. The Army Emergency Reserve Decoration EIIR. instituted on 17th November 1952 and awarded to officers of the Army Emergency Reserve of Officers and the Army Supplementary Reserve for 12 years service. Previous service in the ranks counted half and war service double. All medals are court mounted on original silk ribbons by Spink & Son. Also, coming with the lot, Ashleys dogtags, cloth majors pips, some sports medals and some lucky charms and delivery box addressed to him at 180 Company RASC of the Middle East Forces. Ashley died in Bridge of Weir, Scotland in September 1972.
