The World War I Iron Cross 1st Class (Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse) was a German military decoration awarded for acts of bravery. It was a higher-level award than the 2nd Class and was typically awarded to those who had already received the 2nd Class and performed additional acts of merit.
