For sale is a WW1 Imperial German Oldenburg Order of Peter Friedrich Ludwig with Swords. The House and Merit Order of Duke Peter Frederick Louis (Haus und Verdienstorden von Herzog Peter Friedrich Ludwig) or proper German Oldenburg House and Merit Order of Duke Peter Frederick Louis (German: Oldenburgischer Haus- und Verdienstorden des Herzogs Peter Friedrich Ludwig) was a civil and military order of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg, a member state of the German Empire. The order was founded by Grand Duke Augustus of Oldenburg on 27 November 1838, to honor his father, Peter Frederick Louis of Oldenburg. It became obsolete in 1918 after the abdication of the last grand duke. This medal is struck in German silver, straight-armed cross pattée with white-enamelled arms, with gilded swords crossing through the centre, centre obverse presents the golden crowned monogram PFL (Peter Friedrich Ludwig) over a blue-enamelled field, bordered by a ring of red-enamel bearing the inscription EIN GOTT EIN RECHT EINE WAHRHEIT (ONE GOD ONE RIGHT ONE TRUTH), surmounted by a square eyelet attached to a Royal Crown, reverse centre presents a white-enamelled centre shield bearing the hand painted coat of arms of Oldenburg with an ermine coat and crown, the 12 o’clock arm bears the date 17 Jan 1755, the 3 o’clock arm bears the date 21 Mai 1829, the 6 o’clock arm bears the date 21 Nov 1838, the 9 o’clock arm bears the date 6 Jul 1785. The medal has some enamel damage to the front left section of the cross (please see photos for more details). Other than that the rest of the enamel on the medal is in excellent condition. Ribbon is missing. This will be sent via Royal Mail special delivery and dispatched within two working days.
