WW1 German Princely Reuss Cross of Honour Medal In Silver With Swords in General medals
€225.25
For sale is a WW1 German Princely Reuss Cross of Honour Medal In Silver With Swords. (Fürstlich Reußisches Ehrenkreuz, Silberne Verdienstmedaille mit Schwertern). (Princely Reuss Cross of Honour, Silver Medal of Merit with Swords). The Princely Reuss Cross of Honor was instituted in 1869 by Prince Heinrich XIV of Reuss while the swords (for military awards) were added in 1909. The War Time ribbon (as on this example) was introduced in 1915. The medal was awarded to Non Commisioned Officers and other ranks for Military Merit and at least 12 years of service. The medal is quite rare as the total population of Reuss (Gera – Greiz) during the WW1 was below 250.000 inhabitants. Instituted 24 May 1869 by Prince Heinrich XIV. (1909-1918 issue). Constructed of silver, the obverse bearing a central raised and crowned monogram of Prince Heinrich XIV, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “FÜR VERDIENST” (“FOR MERIT”), situated within a circular laurel leaf wreath, topped by an integral loop fastened with a crossed sword clasp, in turn culminating in a suspension ring retaining a period original ribbon, unmarked. These will be sent via Royal Mail tracked 24 and dispatched within two working days.
