RH02 WW1 British 1912 pattern Majors cuff rank tunic. This is a tailor-made tunic of a heavy barathea cloth, named to T.R. Badger and dated February 1916. It bears the red collar tabs of a staff officer and buttons of the 12th Lancers. All buttons made by Jennens & Co of London. The tunic shows actual use, with wear noted to the lining and to the collar. There is some moth damage, most notably to the base of the left breast pocket and corner of the hem, otherwise a very good example. It’s approximately a size 40-inch chest. Although they have become detached, the ribbons to the King and Queens South Africa war medals are present, having served in South Africa from1901-1902 as a Second Lieutenant in the 12th Lancers. As a Captain in the 12th Lancers, he arrived in France with the BEF on 17th August 1914 and was wounded in action on 20th September 1914, suffering a gunshot wound to the scrotum. He was discharged from hospital on the 2nd October 1914 and returned to his regiment. He was promoted to the rank of Major on 4th October 1915 and Brigade Major by May 1917. In June 1918 he was a General Staff Officer with the rank of Major (temporary Lieutenant Colonel) and Military Attache to Madrid. Awarded the OBE in 1920. There is much more research to be done on this fine officer with an extensive military career.
