A beautiful dual marked private purchased Silber Spanien-Kreuz mit Schwertern by L/16 – Steinhauer & Luck of Lüdenscheid. The Silver Spanish Cross with Swords was awarded to those who had at least moderate combat experience, having participated in decisive battles. It is of multi-piece construction made out of a die struck tombak base that has frosted highlights and was finished in a protective lacquer coating. The obverse depicts a convex pebbled Maltese style cross with two crossed broad swords and four Luftwaffe eagles to each corner, that has an encircled (separately soldered on) mobile swastika to the centre. The concave full back reverse is LDO marked “L/16” (Steinhauer & Luck, Lüdenscheid) and PKZ marked “4” (Steinhauer & Luck, Lüdenscheid) to the pin. It also has a soldered on catch, soldered on block hinge and coke bottle pin, all of which are in well working condition. The detail and frosted highlights are superb! It measures approximately 56mm x 56mm. The award comes housed in its appropriate LDO marked case. It is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that is covered in a simulated grained blue leather. To the front is a multi-piece steel, rectangular spring loaded closure button. To the back is a steel, staggered, piano hinge that is covered in the simulated leather. To the very top is an early silvered “LDO” emblem. The interior-bottom of the case is constructed out of a pressed cardboard base that is covered in a blue fibrous felt material that outlines the pin, hinge and catch assembly. The interior top is constructed out of a blue silk-rayon like material and has an underlying pad. The cloth and leather to the hinge is torn on both sides. It shows minor scuffs and wear throughout. An excellent example complete with it’s rare presentation case. PAYMENT OPTIONS. Because of the high value of this item I am unable to accept payment by PayPal through the website.
