SG03 Another very rarely encountered item of WW1 Austro-Hungarian headgear, being an other ranks issue Hussars visorless service cap. The front is adorned with the tin cockade with the monogram FJI and below that, two brass buttons. The neck cape has an additional two flat tin buttons for use when the cape is pulled down. There is a name tag with the soldiers details in ink sewn to the inner face of the cape. The cap is constructed of coarse wool in madder red with a brushed cotton lining and leather sweatband. The lining is profusely marked with manufacturers stamp, depot markings, date and regimental marks. It is dated 1907 and regimentally marked to the 1 Eskadron (Squadron) 15th Dragoon Regiment. The 15th Dragoon regiment belonged to the 21st Cavalry Brigade, 4th Cavalry Division. They took part in the last major cavalry attack of the Austro-Hungarian army on 21st August 1914 at the battle of Jaroslawice in Galicia.
