Description
Very early constructed SS ‘Koppelschloß für Offiziere’ officer belt buckle maker marked by RZM SS 35/36 – Overhoff & Cie. of Lüdenscheid. This buckle is arguably the second of the RZM era buckles made by Overhoff in 1935. The RZM markings can be deciphered as following; 35 for the year and 36 for the manufacturer. It is constructed out of a die struck nickel-silver base. The round shaped obverse features a ss eagle with outstretched, downward curving, wings that is clutching an oak-leaf wreath and static swastika. The background of the eagle is slightly pebbled and the top half of the buckle has a simulated rope like border. The bottom half of the buckle has an embossed banner with an embossed Gothic scripted motto, “Meine Ehre heißt Treue”, (My Honour is Loyalty). The reverse of the buckle is a mirror image of the obverse and has a raised circular center piece with crimped edges to hold the buckle catch and keeper in place. It is maker marked “RZM SS 35/36”. It has a nickel-plated sleeve and prongs. A rare and desirable piece!
