Deadstock Original 1950s British Army Officer’s Poplin Cotton Collarless Shirt – Size 17 in Shirts

138.62

An original British Army Officers green poplin shirt made by Van Heusen which dates from the 1950s and is in deadstock, unworn condition. This shirt is typical of those made in the 1950s for officer’s in the British Army. It is made from a green poplin cotton and features a neckband collar which would be worn with a matching detachable collar as well as a plain barrel cuff which fastens with a single button. The shirt features a full button front – a style that started to gain popularity during the Second World War, eventually replacing the earlier half placket shirts in the post-war period completely. The original label is still present inside the shirt and is still bright and legible. It features the classic ‘Van Heusen Shirt’ label which also bears the words ‘Made in England’. The collar size is also stamped directly onto the interior in black ink and reads ’17’. The shirt will fit around a 46′ chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures – Chest – 26 1/2′ Inside arm – 22 1/2′ Outside arm – 24 3/4′ Shoulders – 21′ Length at back – 37 1/2′ Collar – 17′ The shirt is in excellent condition with no previous signs of wear or use. It could be described as ‘deadstock’ or ‘unworn’ with no flaws or damage. There is a small pencil mark to the left of the placket as viewed when laid flat which is most likely from the factory. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age. A nice original mid century shirt made from a lovely poplin cotton material.
