Correctly named G18327 Pte A Root R W Kent R Albert was born to Samuel and Selina in 1890. He married Mabel Marshall/Galley in 1914. He was a groom/gardener when he enlisted into the 11th (Lewisham) Service Battalion. An address for him is given as Braintree Road, Waltham, Chelmsford. Landing in France on the 6th of September 1916, Albert is entitled to a Pair. He was with the 11th Bn when they were gearing up for the Attack on Tower Hamlets/Battle of Menin Road Ridge, 19-22nd of September 1917. The main attack started on the 20th, The Third Battle of Ypres. He was killed on the 19th of September due to wounds. He was wounded by shell wounds to his chest. He is buried in Larch Wood (Railway Cutting) Cemetery, Belgium. The medal has an original silk ribbon.
