A very interesting 1945 dated Battledress Blouse to a full Colonel in the 4th Battalion Parachute Regiment. The originally applied insignia showing the Blouse to have been used immediately after WW2. The Blouse is a 1937 Pattern of Canadian manufacture. British soldiers using such commonwealth blouses when they could get them was a frequent occurrence as the quality of manufacture was often preferred. In this case the Blouse has also been re-tailored open at the collar for a smarter appearance when wearing the officer’s shirt and tie. To each epaulette the Blouse has an embroidered King’s Crown and two pips backed on light blue cloth for a full Colonel in the Parachute Regiment. Below this to each upper sleeve are embroidered Parachute Regiment shoulder titles of a post war pattern, with below these embroidered Airborne Division “Pegasus” formation signs of a wartime pattern. The shoulder tiles appear less used than the formation signs, this perhaps indicating this Blouse once had shoulder titles of a wartime pattern applied. To the left shoulder is then a black lanyard for the 4th Battalion Parachute Regiment. To the left breast are sewn medal ribbons for the Order of the British Empire, the Distinguished Service Order and bar (rosette), the Military Cross, the 39-45 Star, the Africa Star (1st Army), the France & Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the War Medal with Mention-in-Despatches oak leaf, the French Legion of Honour, and the French Croix de Guerre with palm. The set of medal ribbons is really quite a distinguished, this perhaps enabling the name of this officer to be found. There are also no parachute qualification wings on the Blouse, this combined with the high rank of full Colonel would suggest either an Honorary Rank or a staff officer, this also perhaps helping to track down the man. Overall condition is very good with service wear but no moth. A nice item worthy of research.
