WW2 Casualty group. 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star,1939-45 War Medal, LSGC Medal awarded July 1943 ( HMS Hurricane ). Issued to: C/JX125146 A/Leading Seaman Alfred Leslie Woolley, Royal Navy. K.I A 24/12/1943, HMS Hurricane. Medals are court style and in good condition. Alfred was one of only 3 men killed in action when HMS Hurricane was torpedoed by U-415. And is commemorated on Chatham Memorial. He was the Son of George and Lillian Woodley and husband of G.E Woodley, of Canterbury, Kent. HMS Hurricane – Destroyer H06, commissioned 21/6/1940 was sunk twice. Bombed and sunk in a German air raid in Liverpool docks, during the night of 7/8 May 1941. Ship was raised, repaired and returned to service in January 1942. At 20.57 hours on 24th December 1943 HMS Hurricane (Cdr Charles Edward Eustace Patterson,RN) was hit by one Gnat from the German Submarine U-415, loosing 30 foot of the Aft section of the Stern. HMS Watchman having took off survivors finished the job by sinking HMS Hurricane, North East of Azores.
