Memorial Plaque. 911559 John Partington ‘H’ Battalion Tank Corps. Killed in action 1st December 1917 at Cambrai. John was born in Crosby, Lancashire. He enlisted at Seaforth and served with the tank corp. He was killed in action during the battle of Cambrai on 1st December 1917 and is buried at Cambrai Memorial, Louverval, France. His name is recorded on the Formby War Memorial with 112 others. On 1st December ‘H’ Battalion was a composite company which was part of 1st and 3rd Guards Brigade. On that day the company had 12 tanks, both female and male marks. Other units had another 20 similar tanks.They were supporting the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards attack on the trench system beyond Gauche Wood. Paperwork including Copy of War diaries, and Medal entitlement enclosed with sale.
