Correctly named D6663 Pte CB Penberthy 6 D Gds Claude Browell Penberthy was born in 1984 in Canongate, Edinburgh to John and Josephine. We find them in 1901 when it is noted his father was a labourer for the Royal Arsenal. They were living at 12 Gildersome Street in Woolwich. In 1911, Claude is now serving as a soldier and an address given for him is 5 Verney Villas, Ordnance Road, Enfield Lock, Middlesex. Claude was serving with the 6Bn (Caribiniers), Royal Scots Dragoons when he was killed in action during the 2nd Battle of the Somme on the 26th of August 1918. Claude was the ‘Hotchkiss Gunner’. He is buried at Caterpillar Valley Cemetery in Longueual. Entitled to just the Pair. His Victory has an original long silk ribbon.
